The Motherhouse of the Sisters of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd found itself on the front line of the Maine River flood that occurred beginning on February 14. For several days, the Angers maintenance team had to deal with a gradual, unpredictable, and exhausting rise in water levels, which reached 6.40 meters on Sunday, February 22. Ga\u00ebtan Collineau, head of the service, and Christophe Tarot look back on this crisis management.<\/em><\/p>\n

It all began on Saturday, February 14. As early as Sunday, the water had reached the linden tree path. On Monday, the 16th, part of the parking lot was flooded, and the trash containers were floating: the first alert. Very quickly, the team understood that they had to anticipate the worst. \u201cWe didn\u2019t know how high it could rise<\/em>,\u201d explains Ga\u00ebtan.<\/p>\n

Workshops, storage areas, garages, the museum, the fair-trade shop, the stationery and souvenir shop, the laundry room, and the cellars: all the spaces located in the flood zone were secured as much as possible. The reference tool became the Vigicrues website. But the curve remained stubbornly rising. \u201cVe\u00edamos que sub\u00eda, pero no ve\u00edamos que bajara. Bas\u00e1ndose en la experiencia de Jo\u00ebl Maussion y Thierry Avrillon, quienes ya hab\u00edan estado presentes durante la inundaci\u00f3n de 1995, el equipo decidi\u00f3 actuar como si se fuera a alcanzar el nivel m\u00e1ximo. Se dispuso todo lo necesario: bloques de hormig\u00f3n, una bomba de desag\u00fce, sacos de arena y maquinaria de desmantelamiento y elevaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n

Barreras contra inundaciones improvisadas<\/h4>\n

Se instalaron barreras artesanales contra inundaciones frente a algunas puertas, las cuales funcionaron parcialmente, pero el agua subi\u00f3 por accion de capilaridad a trav\u00e9s de las paredes de pizarra de los edificios antiguos, como el museo y la Casa Lazare. \u00abHicimos todo lo posible, pero fue desalentador ver que el agua segu\u00eda entrando<\/em>\u00bb, dice Christophe.<\/p>\n

Durante la noche del jueves al viernes, el agua subi\u00f3 m\u00e1s de 10 cent\u00edmetros. Un momento particularmente impactante. \u00abPor la noche, pensamos que lo ten\u00edamos todo bajo control. Al d\u00eda siguiente, el agua llegaba por encima de las puertas. Nos pregunt\u00e1bamos cu\u00e1ndo iba a parar.<\/em>\u00bb<\/p>\n

En total, se desmontaron unas treinta puertas cortafuegos, extremadamente pesadas y caras, para evitar que sufrieran da\u00f1os irreparables.<\/p>\n

Reubicaci\u00f3n de emergencia<\/h4>\n

The situation became critical for Lazare House and the Museum, which were affected by 15 to 20 centimeters of water. In coordination with the province leader Sister Marie-Luc Bailly, the province treasuerer Sister Helen Anne, and the director of the EHPAD nursing home, a relocation solution was organized at the Marie-Th\u00e9r\u00e8se de Soubiran residence. Fue necesario instalar un suministro el\u00e9ctrico temporal para restablecer la energ\u00eda en la sala de calderas. Los da\u00f1os materiales son significativos: suelos, paredes, instalaciones el\u00e9ctricas y humedad persistente. \u00abSe necesitar\u00e1n al menos seis meses para evaluar todas las consecuencias. Algunas se ir\u00e1n manifestando con el tiempo<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Entre los retrasos de las aseguradoras, el secado de los edificios y la disponibilidad de contratistas, la restauraci\u00f3n completa llevar\u00e1 tiempo.<\/p>\n

Una Unidad de Crisis para el Futuro<\/h4>\n

En retrospectiva, Ga\u00ebtan Collineau subraya la importancia de una organizaci\u00f3n formal. \u00abDe un problema de inundaci\u00f3n surgen docenas de otros. Deber\u00edamos haber creado una unidad de crisis para no tener que tomar todas las decisiones nosotros solos<\/em>\u00bb. Esta inundaci\u00f3n tambi\u00e9n plantea interrogantes sobre la recurrencia de eventos clim\u00e1ticos extremos. Lo que antes parec\u00eda excepcional podr\u00eda volverse m\u00e1s frecuente.<\/p>\n

Un esp\u00edritu de equipo admirable<\/h4>\n

A pesar del cansancio, las largas jornadas y la presi\u00f3n constante, un elemento positivo permanece: la solidaridad. \u00abNadie se quej\u00f3. Est\u00e1bamos bajo la lluvia colocando sacos de arena, y todos estaban all\u00ed<\/em>\u00bb. Los miembros del equipo incluso se ofrecieron a estar disponibles durante el fin de semana en caso de emergencia.<\/p>\n

Las Hermanas expresaron su apoyo, tanto a nivel local como internacional. Recibieron mensajes de todo el mundo, demostrando su apego al lugar y a la comunidad. \u00abSomos muy peque\u00f1as ante la fuerza de la naturaleza<\/em>\u00bb. La inundaci\u00f3n habr\u00e1 sido un duro recordatorio de la vulnerabilidad de los edificios ante los elementos. Pero tambi\u00e9n revel\u00f3 la fortaleza de un equipo capaz de actuar con calma, profesionalismo y compromiso.<\/p>\n
