{"id":14686,"date":"2026-03-09T18:53:32","date_gmt":"2026-03-09T17:53:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.olcgs.org\/?p=14686"},"modified":"2026-05-09T12:56:55","modified_gmt":"2026-05-09T10:56:55","slug":"migrant-women-in-hong-kong-rise-reclaim-their-dignity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.olcgs.org\/es\/migrant-women-in-hong-kong-rise-reclaim-their-dignity\/","title":{"rendered":"Sailing for Equality: Migrant Women in Hong Kong Rise Reclaim their Dignity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>By Sr. Corazon Demetillo, Hong Kong (Province of Northeast Asia)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>El <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/es\/observances\/womens-day\">D\u00eda Internacional de la Mujer<\/a>, Sr. Corazon Demetillo, Directress of the Diocesan Pastoral Center for Filipinos (DPCF), hosted and facilitated sessions with several communities of Migrant Workers at the DPCF and at the Philippine Consulate General (PCG-HK) \u2013 with over 1000 women joining the sessions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-14696\" src=\"https:\/\/www.olcgs.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/women-migrant-workers-shared-the-crosses-or-burdens-they-carry_169-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.olcgs.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/women-migrant-workers-shared-the-crosses-or-burdens-they-carry_169-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.olcgs.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/women-migrant-workers-shared-the-crosses-or-burdens-they-carry_169-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.olcgs.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/women-migrant-workers-shared-the-crosses-or-burdens-they-carry_169-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.olcgs.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/women-migrant-workers-shared-the-crosses-or-burdens-they-carry_169-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.olcgs.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/women-migrant-workers-shared-the-crosses-or-burdens-they-carry_169-18x10.jpg 18w, https:\/\/www.olcgs.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/women-migrant-workers-shared-the-crosses-or-burdens-they-carry_169.jpg 1970w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Since it was also a Lenten Season, the sessions focused on Jesus\u2019 call for all women to <strong>rise up<\/strong> <strong>from the gender discrimination<\/strong> still prevailing in the world, society, community, church, school, and in the home, and to <strong>reclaim their God-given dignity<\/strong> as they were created in the image and likeness of God, and loved as they are by God.<\/p>\n<p>As distressed, overburdened women with family, work-related, and personal problems and issues, they were able to relate easily with the cross that Jesus carried as they reflected on images of the Stations of the Cross and on specific events in Jesus\u2019 life.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-14689\" src=\"https:\/\/www.olcgs.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/March-8-International-Womens-Day-session_169-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.olcgs.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/March-8-International-Womens-Day-session_169-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.olcgs.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/March-8-International-Womens-Day-session_169-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.olcgs.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/March-8-International-Womens-Day-session_169-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.olcgs.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/March-8-International-Womens-Day-session_169-18x10.jpg 18w, https:\/\/www.olcgs.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/March-8-International-Womens-Day-session_169.jpg 1384w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>With the grace of the Holy Spirit, they humbly and trustingly entered into the healing and freeing encounters of Jesus with the Samaritan Woman (John 4:5-42) and the Woman Caught in Adultery (John 8:1-11). As women, they too deeply felt Jesus <strong>listened to them and accepted them without judgment<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In the healing of the Blind Man (John 9:1-41), they felt their eyes and hearts were opened to the negative effects of the gender discrimination since their childhood.
