Nestled in the foothills of the Andes in northwestern Argentina, the ‘MarÃa que Desata los Nudos’ (‘Mary Who Unties Knots’) Community in La Rioja gathered for nine days of prayer and service from September 19 as the Parish of the Annunciation of the Lord celebrated its annual novena.
Together with the sisters and partners-in-mission who joined us for the events from Corrientes and Buenos Aires, we reached out to families in the surrounding neighborhoods.

Visiting homes one by one, we shared a simple yet powerful message: the Church needs you, waits for you, journeys with you, and prays for you. We are deeply grateful for every home that opened its doors to receive Mary and the Gospel. Each encounter allowed us to listen to the realities of the people— their challenges, hopes, and joy… and reminded us of the beauty found in humility and simplicity.
One of the most meaningful moments was a music workshop where children, with the support of the sisters and their families, created their own musical instruments from natural, local materials such as seeds and pods. These instruments became part of their First Communion celebration, an uplifting and joyful way for the children to express creativity, faith, and unity.
On September 24, the community made a pilgrimage to the convent of the Good Shepherd Contemplative Sisters. There, our parish priest, Father Jorge Vega, celebrated the Eucharist, especially praying for new vocations in the Church: priests, religious, and lay partners. Stories shared by sisters, partners-in-mission, and married couples during the celebration offered inspiring examples of how God continues to call people to serve with love and generosity. The day concluded with a joyful fellowship gathering that strengthened our sense of community and mission.

September 26 was a day of celebration as eleven children received the Eucharist for the first time. Parents were encouraged to guide, nurture, and protect the faith of their children —a precious gift that can transform lives.
The novena culminated in a community procession, Mass, and a shared toast, honoring the Virgin Mary, who lovingly guides us and helps untie the knots that keep us from drawing closer to Jesus. Together, we reaffirmed the hope and renewal that faith brings to our daily lives.

This time of celebration has left lasting roots: small gestures that became meaningful, encounters that rekindled faith, and new bonds that strengthen our mission to serve.
We believe that this is only the beginning. The seed has been planted, and the desire to continue bringing the Gospel and Mary’s comfort to every street corner remains strong. We look forward to stepping forward again next year —with open hearts, ready hands, and confidence that God continues to work wonders among his people.
