On August 15, 2026, the Solemnity of the Assumption of Our Lady, the Angola and Mozambique Sector witnessed the joyful celebration of the first religious profession of novices Adriana Salupassa, Domingas Joaquim, Esperança Kwisi, Feliciana Nguluve, Joana José, Joana Ngadiama, and Lídia Manuel. The Eucharist was celebrated at the Quasi-Parish of Our Lady of All Saints in the Archdiocese of Luanda.

Inspired by the example of the Virgin Mary, these seven young women responded generously to God’s call, consecrating their lives to follow Jesus the Good Shepherd. They committed themselves to live the Evangelical Counsels of poverty, chastity, and obedience, as well as the fourth vow of zeal, which gives the Good Shepherd sister a special dynamism in her consecrated life for mission. They place themselves at the service of the Church and, in a particular way, of girls, women, and children in situations of vulnerability.

Following a period of discernment, formation, and experience of religious life, the novices pronounced their “yes” before God, the Church, the Sector Coordinator Sr. Eva Pedro Ribeiro, and her Council.

The Angola and Mozambique Sector is experiencing a moment of particular grace as it welcomes these sisters. It is an unprecedented moment in the Sector’s history of vocation promotion: a group of nine young women offering their lives to the Congregation. Seven Angolan women made their profession on August 15, 2026, while two Mozambican novices, Joiline and Isabel, will make their vows on September 6, 2026, at Saint Isabel Parish in the Diocese of Nampula.

The Africa Region and the Congregation rejoice in the generous response of these sisters. Despite the challenges of today’s world, they have chosen to give themselves to God—a sign of flourishing and hope for the Congregation, and a source of strength for the mission alongside the people to whom they are sent.

The Angola and Mozambique Sector is to be congratulated. With them, we say with Saint Mary Euphrasia: “Our hearts overflow with joy and gratitude. How good God is to us.”

May this joy endure, and may their “yes” always be strengthened by the grace of God. May their witness be a source of hope, love, and service for many people. We embrace them within the Good Shepherd family and throughout the Congregation.
