El April 22, the Sisters of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd marked a significant milestone with the initiation of its first International online Community of Practice session on Safeguarding, facilitated by the Congregational Safeguarding Team. This inaugural gathering brought together main safeguarding focal persons from across global provinces and regions to strengthen a shared commitment to safeguarding as a lived culture of care, dignity, protection, and accountability.

Safeguarding is no longer seen solely as policies, procedures, or compliance requirements. Instead, it is being embraced as a culture of everyday life, in which protection, accountability, and care are woven naturally into relationships and mission.

A Community of Practice: A Shared Journey

Safeguarding Community of Practice sessions are envisioned as a sacred, living space of encounter, relationship-building, and shared learning. It is a community where learning does not flow from one expert to many, but emerges from the collective wisdom and lived experience of all participants.

Here, each person is both a learner and a contributor, bringing unique insight shaped by experience and ministry.

At its heart, a Community of Practice is about belonging to a shared mission of safeguarding, crecer more aware, compassionate, and understanding, and co-creating practical and meaningful responses together.

This space is deeply relational, rooted in openness, humility, and mutual accountability.

Walking Together in Shared Responsibility

Safeguarding calls the congregation to move beyond isolation into shared responsibility and collective action. Through this Community of Practice, participants are growing to move from working alone to walking together, from uncertainty to shared clarity, from fear of making mistakes to courage in learning, and from individual effort to collective responsibility.

These monthly online sessions for main safeguarding focal persons, facilitated by the safeguarding team, will continue to nurture reflection, dialogue, and strengthening of safeguarding practices across the congregation.

This initiative is more than a structured meeting—it is a growing expression of who we are becoming. It reflects a deepening awareness that safeguarding is not an added responsibility, but an essential way of living our mission. As this journey unfolds, we are reminded that safeguarding is not the work of a few but the calling of all. It is a shared path of vigilance, compassion, and courage.

May this Community of Practice continue to be a place where wisdom is shared generously, where listening becomes transformation, and where every voice strengthens our collective commitment.

Together, may we become faithful guardians of dignity, builders of safe spaces, and witnesses of a love that protects, restores, and uplifts every person entrusted to our care.
