In the Province of Mexico, we face challenges as we continue to journey ahead. We are committed to seeking new ways of living and serving for the love of the mission, which is why August 2024 was the month of encounter.
The provincial assembly began with a Eucharistic celebration in which we entrusted our work to God. In the opening words of our Provincial Leader, Sr. Teresa Fernández, we were invited to “widen our tent, move the pegs and let enter the new, the dynamism of the Spirit that blows and illuminates the journey.” This was an auspicious time with a perfect balance of dialogue, discernment, conversations in the spirit, listening, and coexistence.
Hand in hand with St. John Eudes and St. Mary Euphrasia, we set out to take new risks that move us to pitch and expand our tent to share with others, asking ourselves: How do I feel? How does my heart feel about journeying from reunification to regionalization? What dialogue needs to continue so that we are all heard and move forward together? As synodal communities that encourage us to come out of ourselves to meet the other, what realities do we experience? What situations do we face in the places where we are?
It is certainly not easy to answer all the many questions that arise within us. One of the echoes that resounded in my heart was the text of Micah 6:8: “… practice justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God.”
Governance was one of the many issues we discussed. We recognize that we need to continue dialoguing in our communities about the structure and way of life in which we want to continue embracing our very essence as religious from our charism and spirituality. We recognize the need to explore new ways of re-imagining our future and contributing to the social, political, and economic realities of today and of our interconnectedness with Creation and care for our common home – as per our commitment to Laudato Si in our Call to Action for a Universal Culture of Justice.
We value the steps we have taken as a province and the fruits we have reaped together with our partners in mission who share and are committed to the mission.
Having shared in this space of dialogue, we return to our communities challenged and committed, we return to our communities challenged and committed from having shared in this space of dialogue. Although there is much to do, we are strengthened by hope and find encouragement in our trust that God walks with us as we continue responding to our call as we journey into tomorrow.
