Migration is one of the most pressing issues of our time, touching millions of lives and demanding our collective attention. Palm Sunday connects with migration through the symbolism of Jesus’ journey to Jerusalem, which can be seen as a pilgrimage, much like the journeys of many migrants today.

Pope Francis has consistently called for nations and individuals to welcome, protect, promote, and integrate migrants. His messages in Fratelli Tutti and the Message for the World Day of Migrants and Refugees emphasize addressing root causes like conflict, poverty, and climate change while responding with compassion to migration crises.

The spirit of the Good Shepherd calls us to go where the cry of humanity is the loudest. The Congregation’s clear position on migration emphasizes “hearing the cry from the margins” and responding boldly to build communities rooted in inclusivity. This connects deeply with Pope Francis’ appeal to overcome apathy and fear of the “other.

A Call to Action

Jesus’ entry into the city, greeted with palm branches, represents hope and peace—ideas that resonate with migrants who seek safety, refuge, and transformation. Palm Sunday reminds us to reflect on our responsibility to support and care for migrants in need.

Additionally, His identification with the marginalized and rejected mirrors the experiences of displaced people today, inviting solidarity and compassion for those on similar journeys.

In this season of renewal, reflection, and transformation, learn more about the causes forcing people to migrate and take action, such as becoming a Laudato Si’ Animator to advocate for climate and ecological justice to become part of the solution in addressing some of the root causes of migration.
