The leaders of the Provinces of Indonesia, Northeast Asia, Australia / Aotearoa-New Zealand, Singapore / Malaysia*, and the sector leader of Pakistan gathered in Jakarta, Indonesia, from October 27-29, 2025. This historic meeting marks a pivotal moment in our shared mission to empower lives, restore rights, and uphold the dignity of women, girls, and children across this area of Asia Pacific.

The groundwork for this significant step was laid by the overwhelming consent of the sisters in each province and sector, who embraced the vision of forming a new Region. This decision is a direct response to the 31st Congregational Chapter’s Call to Action for a New Governance Structure, which seeks to promote our Good Shepherd mission more effectively and ensure its vitality for years to come.

During our time together, the leaders signed a formal letter to the Congregational Leadership Team, requesting approval to establish the new Region. As we await their discerned response, we acknowledge the profound energy and commitment to driving this new chapter in our history forward.

This move toward a new governance structure is not just an administrative change; it is a spiritual renewal that deepens our capacity for mission. It comes at a time of significant milestones, reminding us of the enduring legacy we build upon.

In 2026, the sisters in Pakistan will celebrate the 50th anniversary of their foundation. This will be followed in 2027 by the centenary of the Good Shepherd mission in Indonesia, which began in 1927 with the arrival of the first sisters from the Netherlands. These anniversaries honor a rich history of zealous service that will guide and inspire our new Region.

Looking ahead, we are preparing for a Regional Assembly, to be held virtually from August 26-29, 2026, and a Regional Chapter, to be held in person in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, from October 27 to November 3, 2026. A Regional Chapter Planning Team will be formed, with Sr. Alfonsa Sudaryanti of Indonesia serving as the Unit Link.

To strengthen our sense of unity and shared understanding, sisters and partners-in-mission will be invited to attend online gatherings, creating opportunities to connect and appreciate the diverse realities of our mission in each country. This journey of getting to know one another is essential as we consolidate our collaboration and collective impact.

During these historic meetings, the leaders visited the Indonesian Province Mission Centre, learning about the courageous journey of the first sisters who arrived from the Netherlands nearly a century ago. Their pioneering spirit continues to motivate us as we embrace this new beginning, confident that together, we can more effectively live out our call to be a reconciling presence of Jesus the Good Shepherd.
